Working since 2005 as a portfolio manager for New York-based Vision Capital Advisors, LLC. In his free time Adam Benowitz is also a co-manager at Converge Media Group in New York City. A philanthropic individual, Adam Benowitz donates his time and money to several organizations, one of which is Math for America. Founded in 2004, the non-profit organization aims to improve math education throughout U.S. public schools.
Math for America hosts an annual charity poker tournament to help raise funds for its programs. Mr. Benowitz participates in this annual event, and in 2010, he came in fourth place. Proceeds from the poker tournament support the group’s fellowship programs, which benefit public secondary school math and science teachers and help them share their knowledge and teaching skills with others.
Typically held in April, the poker tournament attracts professional and amateur poker players alike. To enter the tournament, participants must donate a minimum of $5,000 to enter the No-Limit Hold ‘Em event. This initial donation gives the individual one distribution of chips; to re-enter the tournament, participants may donate an addition $5,000 up to three additional times.
